CSF Legacy Society Founding Member: Rick Henken
Richard “Rick” Henken is the President of Schochet Companies, a developer, owner, and manager of affordable housing throughout New England. Rick is an active philanthropist within the Boston community and has served on CSF’s Board of Trustees since 2005. He currently chairs CSF’s Advancement Committee. Rick also serves on several other boards, among them Hebrew Senior Life, Discovering Justice, and B’nai B’rith Housing. Rick is currently chairman of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board (GBREB).
Rick has always strived to make a positive impact on the lives of others both in his work and in his philanthropy. He is especially committed to investing in education, and sees no better way than to support the values-based, high-quality education Catholic Schools provide for underserved children. A reform Jew, Rick takes seriously his obligation to do “Tzedakah,” or charity, offering his time and treasure in support of the poor and needy. When asked why he supports CSF’s Building Minds Scholarship Fund Rick stated, “A good education has the potential to make all of the difference in the lives of so many of our children. Catholic schools provide incredible opportunities for so many economically disadvantaged kids, including many new arrivals to this country, offering an excellent education in a loving, faith-based environment. ”
When Rick wanted to ensure that his legacy of giving would continue well into the future, he added CSF to his will in the form of a bequest.
